The cruise ship industry is the fastest growing sector of the tourism industry. In 2007, around 25 million people were passengers aboard a cruise ship. This was a significant increase from other years. Each year there are progressively more cruise ships being built, which means there are increasingly more jobs being created. At present, there are over 1.5 million crewmembers worldwide, which means there are always new positions available.

You may be wondering what types of positions are available aboard a cruise ship. Think of a cruise ship as a floating city. There are more than 200 different positions available on any large vessel. Most of these ships are designed to carry 2000-4000 passengers with the ratio of passengers to crew being approximately 2:1. Since there is such a high turnover of staff due to short contracts in the industry, there are always thousands of positions vacant. Cruise lines are keen to employ staff from all over the world, as this enables diversity and a strong work ethic, which results in a higher level of service to passengers who are also from all across the globe.

Working on a cruise ship may be demanding at times, however there are many advantages, such as earning a good income which is tax free, meeting people from all over the world and forming lasting relationships, having your airfares, accommodation, food, board, uniform and medical expenses paid for, being able to travel and explore exotic and foreign destinations, having the option to work a short or long contract, and the most important…creating many memories that will last a lifetime.

Cruise ship employment suits a diverse range of people. Whether you are a professional looking for a career, a university student looking to travel and earn money on your break, single and looking for love, a married couple looking to explore the world, or someone who just feels like cruising for a while, reCRUISEment will help you anchor your job and your dream.
